About Kara
Kara King-Bess holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Virginia State University and a Master of Business Administration from Columbia University. As the firm’s Audit Principal and Vice President, Kara oversees the scheduling, planning, and execution of all audit engagements. She brings more than twenty-five years of public accounting experience, complemented by internships with Fortune 500 companies and an international accounting firm during her graduate studies.
Kara serves as the lead auditor on numerous engagements for not-for-profit and government-funded organizations, conducted in accordance with GAO and OMB Circular A-133 auditing standards. She has completed developer-sponsored training for not-for-profit accounting software, implementing and training client teams on its use. In addition, she successfully completed the AICPA’s Personal Financial Planning program, designed to enhance the capabilities of CPAs providing financial advisory services.
Kara was appointed to the Maryland State Board of Public Accountancy, where she served a six-year term. She currently contributes her expertise as a board member of the Baltimore City Industrial Development Authority, Board Chair of Advance Bank, and board member of both AAA Mid-Atlantic and the Greater Baltimore Medical Center. She previously served on the board of the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants.
Her professional affiliations include the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants (MACPA), and the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA).
